Flippers Root Probing Rules of Golf Question

Ok guys, today we have another doozy for you. Flipper the Dolphin apparently plays golf and has written to us: “My buddy nemo hit his ball under a tree. Nemo’s a bit of a care freak and was scared he there were roots near his ball so he probed the ground using a tee. Couldn’t thi be considered improving or altering your lie?

Firstly, where you been all these years Flipper? Anyway, probing for roots is totally within the rules if there is a reasonable possibility there are roots around.
