How Long Will it Take Me To Get Good?

One of the most popular questions a new golfer will ask is how long will it take me to get good? There’s no easy answer to this and firstly, the term “good” is different for everybody. For our sakes, were going to take this as meaning good enough to play with anybody. So how long will it take you to be comfortable playing with anybody? This depends a lot on each persons athletic ability, how much they practice and how often they play. If you’re a good sportsman then you might only need 10 hours of lessons and couple of 18 hole rounds to feel comfortable playing with better players, but for many people, it’s going to be a few months before you start feeling comfortable on the course. We recommend that once you have learned the basics and can hit the ball a reasonable distance most of the time, try to play as often as you can. The course and the driving range are not the same and playing will get you used to the course conditions, which is really what you need. We know of many players, particularly in Asia that hit the ball sweetly on the driving range but when they get on the course it’s like a different person is playing. That didn’t really answer the question did it but it’s a bit of a stupid question anyway so go watch the next golf video.
