Since the program starting there’s been a noticeable drop in crime with offences such as burglary, robbery and thft dropping by 27 percent. Over half of the people in the program are encouraged to take part in sport and of them, 90% are keen on golf. "We have youngsters in the town who can't afford these activities and they are being penalised. I think it's all wrong." says Victor Tumilty, who represents the Grange ward on Hartlepool Borough Council adding “We are catering for people who have drug problems brought on by themselves.”. Both sides have good points but we agree with counciller Alison Lilley who says "Anything that helps people get off drugs I would support 100 per cent”.
